Extending Clueless to be monitored and used by automated logic

It'd be excellent if the features of clueless had a (preferably RESTful) API.

I'd like to be able to write code to monitor my line activity and do stuff like automatically switch to a 3dB profile when my transfer rate spikes, then drop back to a lower-rate but more stable profile when demand is low. Or switch to Annex M during periods of high upstream usage. Or consume my transfer data and react accordingly.

Possible Solution: An API
A RESTful API would be perfect. Authentication could be by a shared, lengthy, randomly-generated key ('API key' in common terms) or through something like OAuth.

provide an API equivalient to the user controls on clueless

This would allow customers to hook into the A&A reporting / control functions from their internal management systems.

We do have ideas to have an XML interface into clueless, this is a longer term project, but will cover ordering for resellers, fault diagnostic etc...
